New Jersey's Domestic Partnership Act
New Jersey's Domestic Partnership Act offers same-sex couples legal status as a domestic partnership. We consult same-sex couples on how to register for Domestic Partnership. A couple needs to live together, share expenses, and share a bank account or other property such as a home to qualify. This does not afford same-sex couples the same status as marriage. However, the Domestic Partnership Act does afford certain rights to lesbian and gay couples:
The right to claim joint tax status
The right to be protected against discrimination from employers, landlords, and other individuals
The right to establish your partner as your health care proxy
The right to health insurance
Representing Same Sex Couples When the Relationship Ends
If you are considering separating from your partner, contact our firm. We offer quality legal services to people during the end of domestic partnerships. We represent clients regarding issues such as child custody and property division.
